Although micro braids hairstyles are one of the most time intensive hairstyles and a popular summer style to keep hair at bay while enjoying fun in the sun, as well as a part of many cultural styles, there are certain risks that come to the hair when one uses micro braids as part of their regular hairstyle.
These risks should be determined before micro braid hairstyles are used within the hair as micro braids can lead to the individual having damaged hair that lacks the nutrients and natural oils that are present in the hair. Since the hair is braided so tightly it can be hard for the hair to retain these nutrients within the body.
Micro braids should only be kept within the hair for a short period of time – no longer than six weeks. After this time, the braids should be removed from the hair to allow the hair to heal from the process of micro braids being placed within the hair.
Micro braids hairstyles can be used within the hair as long as actions are taken to minimize the damages which are going to occur within the hair. Making use of deep conditioning treatments that can be applied to the hair before the braids are woven can be a great way to save the hair from damage.

I don’t suppose they hurt, but they are tight to the head. There are some people that suffer from headaches from hairstyles which are woven too tightly to the head.

I have had micros for years and if they are taken care of your hair will grow. You just have to oil hair and remove properly. I don’t let anyone but myself take out my braids. You can’t pull the hair hard.

As many times as I’ve seen micros… If they’re taken care of the do make your hair grow. It’s just a matter of taking care of them the right way. Micros do hurt pretty bad the first little while you have them but once your hair starts growing or you have them in for a while they loosen up.

I want to know the name of a weave that is used in african shops. It comes in many colors, and is already curly out of the package ,and has a lot of body? Does anyone know the name of this hair?

I have micro braids in the front of my hair and slightly bigger braids in the back. I chose to do this because when taking out micro braids especially after having them for awhile there’s knotting from the dirt buildup and it can get frustrating to want to comb out each little section of hair piece by piece. I’ll want to comb through it which in the end will break and damage my hair. So I only do micros in the front of my hair and keep my hair oiled twice a day with my homemade oil remedy that consist of olive oil, rosemary oil, coconut oil and grapeseed oil. As well as a leave in conditioner once a week that I’ll put in my hair to make sure is maintains it’s moisture and softness. I also am the only one who braids my hair because I know how tight I want them.

im in the military so when it came to micro braids it help my natural hair alot. i didnt have to use any gel or hairspary that could damage my hair. its all about takeing care of them and yes its alot safer if u take them out urself and dont perm ur hair after takeing them out. gotta let ur hair heal and rest first.

Shanaya,
Thanks for the tips, and yes, it is important to allow your hair time out of the braids to heal.

Thank God…..I decided to do some research on micro braids…I recently placed micro braids in my hair and I didn’t know that there were risks……I even planned on keeping the hairstyle in ma hair for a long while so I guess I have to think twice….Thanks though
