Braids can be used in a variety of formal styles, especially up-do hairstyles. Small braids can be used to create the appearance of longer hair and larger braids can be used in traditional, simplistic and yet elegant styles.
While choosing a braided style for a formal event, consider the latest trend of creating a side swept braid through the bangs of the hair or even taking advantage of a side swept French braid which can become an elegant way to make the most of a braided hairstyle. Through the use of these hairstyles, the individual is able to complete the braided hairstyle that can look best with their hair.
When it comes to braiding the hair for these formal styles, consider using pomade or anti frizz serum to achieve the most polished look possible. Through this polished look, the individual can create the appearance of a sleek hairstyle with the use of these products which are effective in sleeking even the smallest of flyaway hair which can ruin the effect of the glamorous hairstyle that has been created.
At recent award shows through the summer and spring months, these braided hairstyles have been all the rage on the red carpet, from hairstyles that have included braids throughout the back of the hair, to hairstyles that have included weaving of the hair to cause the hair to appear longer or shorter.

Hi Annie,
If you are able to create a braid by pulling the hair back and learn french braiding techniques, you should be able to create this braid.
Hope this helps!
In the near future I will create a how-to for this hairstyle and link you to it (:

Jess,
You can complete the bun in the end by making a simple pony tail in the hair and wrapping the hair around and than using pins to pull up sections of the hair to create the casual style. The pony tail makes it a great way to ensure that the hair stays put all day!
